Otomycosis : A Clinico Mycological Study
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction: Otomycosis is a common fungal infection of the ear that is seen in the tropical and sub tropical regions of the world. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of fungal agents and predisposing factors involved in otomycosis. Methods: Samples from the 103 clinically suspected patients of otomycosis were collected between July 2011 to June 2012 and subjected to mycological diagnosis [direct microscopic examination and culture]. Results: Otomycosis was diagnosed in 85% of the patients. Swimming, use of oils and eardrops were the most common predisponsing factors. Otalgia and pruritus were the symptoms commonly encountered. The fungi isolated were Aspergillus niger, A fumigatus, A flavus, C. albicans, non albicans candida, Mucor and penicillium. Conclusion: Otomycosis is very common in India, clinical examination and mycological studies are important for diagnosis and effective treatment of patients.

متن کاملOtomycosis with Perforated Tympanic Membrane: Self medication with Topical Antifungal Solution versus Medicated Ear Wick.
OBJECTIVES In otomycosis with tympanic membrane perforation, many physicians prefer to insert an ear wick medicated with antimycotic cream. This needs multiple visits to the clinic and keeps the ear blocked for several days. Direct instillation of alcohol based antimycotic solution causes severe burning if it reaches the middle ear. In this work we compare patient's self medication with clotrim...
